"My favorite memory of STOMP is about this one boy in a Somerville school. The first lesson he explained to my partner and me that he had never built Lego’s before and that they looked really hard. He struggled with the projects each class period and would become frustrated and upset. In his imperfect English he would exclaim, “I hate Lego, I hate Lego!” Then one class we built motorized cars. Unlike his usual withdrawn self, this boy raised his hand and announced to the class that the cars were his favorite. The car that he built was the fastest and won the challenge for the day. He was so happy that he said over and over, “I love Lego, I love Lego!” It was very hard to tell him he couldn’t bring his car home to show his mom. The expression of the pride and accomplishment on the boys face has stuck with me and makes me appreciate the things I can do for these school children."
