ICC World Cup 2023
FIR filed against BCCI for black marketing of World Cup tickets

Ahead of India’s much-awaited match against South Africa on November 5 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, a fan has filed an FIR against BCCI, BookMyShow, and Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) for black marketing of World Cup tickets.

The news comes days after a man was arrested in Kolkata for selling India-South Africa match tickets for 11,000 rupees instead of 2500 rupees. In the FIR, the fan alleged that these bodies did not release large amount of tickets for the public and sold them to the black market operators to earn profits.

The police have taken swift action in this matter and issued a notice to BCCI, CAB, and BookMyShow asking their officials to appear at Maidan Police Station on November 2 for investigation.

None of the mentioned parties have responded to the complaint but will comply with police orders.

Not just Kolkata, but several fans had earlier expressed their astonishment to see several stadiums half-filled despite the ticket-selling platforms showing ‘sold out’ when they tried to buy tickets. It is fair to assess that the ticket-buying experience has not been a smooth one for the fans in the ICC World Cup 2023.
