This week, we did a lesson on parachutes. The students built a small parachute that held up a Lego man/woman. They used non-Lego materials (pre-cut plastic bag, yarn) to construct the parachute. We also mentioned the term "air resistance" and tried to explain what it was to the students. This was a successful activity, except for the fact that some of the students didn't know how to tie knots, so we had to help them out with that. The partners worked really well together and enjoyed testing their parachutes out once they were done making them. They tried to drop a Lego man that wasn't attached to a parachute at the same time that they dropped one that was attached to a parachute. They noticed the time difference between their falls, and learned the basics of what created this time difference.
