| Day 7: Rube-Goldberg Machines I |
|
Today's activity was Rube Goldberg Machines. We started by showing youtube videos of Rube-Goldberg machines, then watched a clip of a Wallace and Gromit contraption which has a functional end goal but is Rube-Goldberg-esque. The students were then assigned the task to draw and design a device that had at least two moving functions that would bring a doughnut hole from table level to mouth level (for them). The goal was to show them that how things look on paper deviate strongly from how they act in reality. When the students had a plausible machine designed (using either a pulley system, rubber band system or lever system) we approved their blueprint and they started building. They were tremendously excited and their energy was well channeled |
