Week 3--Ramps
This week, we did a ramp activity. I started by introducing a few physics terms such as speed/velocity, gravity, distance, acceleration, friction, and angle. I don't think they completely understand the terms yet, but they seemed to grasp the general idea. Their goal for this activity was to design and build a ramp from legos. They had to be able to adjust the angle of the incline of the ramp without holding it up themselves. They understood the activity well and worked well together for the most part. As an extension I asked them to build an adjustable ramp using gears or pulleys, but they didn't finish in time. Next week they'll be using their ramps and they'll be building simple cars to roll down their ramps. They'll be experimenting with the relationship between angles and distance.
