| Week 5--Gumdrop Structures |
|
This week's activity was based off an activity we had done during a stomp meeting the previous semester. I started class again going over the engineering design process and having a student explain it in their own words. I had the students brainstorm the types of shapes and structures they see in their playgrounds and buildings. The goal of today's activity was to build a gumdrop structure using the allotted number of gumdrops and toothpicks that would be sturdy enough to carry significant weight. The students did extremely well with this activity as they had done a similar activity with marshmallows in class. They were very creative with the shapes they formed with the gumdrops. Overall, it was very successful and both groups finished this time. :) |
