Week 3: Chemical Engineering |

This week we introduced what chemical engineering entails. We went over what a chemical engineer does and the ways they contribute to society. We then had the class pair up to make ice cream. We mixed cream, milk, sugar, and vanilla ahead of time so it wouldn't be as messy. The bag filled with the cream mixture was then placed in a gallon-size bag. The bigger bag was then filled with ice and salt and the kids had to shake them for 20 minutes. The partners each took turns shaking the bag. In the end, our ice cream didn't turn out to be solid ice cream, but more of a milkshake consistency. I don't think we used enough salt. The kids did not mind, however, and drank the milkshakes happily.
