Introduction and Civil Engineering |

Today we showed the students at SAM film to review the engineering design process. We introduced the curriculum for the rest of the year and this semester: different types of engineering. We brainstormed a list of types of engineering and started to talk about civil engineering in particular. We introduced the first challenge: to create a bridge that can hold two full water bottles. The students planned out the design for their bridges and began building. The challenge was a huge success--the kids loved having free-reign over the design process, and working with kits. They did have some difficulty building with beams and connectors instead of bricks.
