Week 7: Chemical/Electrical Engineering |
Today we introduced chemical engineering through a potato battery experiment. The materials for this activity were a little more difficult to obtain (esp. a voltmeter). This activity differed from most of our previous ones in that there was more to explain conceptually, and there was less “engineering”. Most students had not heard of protons/electrons and the background information on batteries was probably too advanced for them. However, they seemed to enjoy the activity and did find their own ways to experiment with their batteries (i.e. pushing metal pieces further into the potato, changing the distances between cathodes, etc).
