ISB Week 5: Stay on the Table

This past week (11/04/09) we completed the "Stay on the Table" NXT activity, which introduced the ultrasonic sensor, with the students. We hadn't met in two weeks, so we first recalled basic programming concepts as a class and then presented the challenge. Because these students have only had three weeks of guided programming experience, we brainstormed solutions to the challenge as a class.

During the course of the class period, all but one group completed the challenge. Most groups finished early and came up with extensions on their own, such as looping the robot to navigate the table and adding other sensors. The teachers were very involved: they set up a testing table, helped groups individually with their projects, and disciplined the students when necessary.
