Week 3- Ramp Roller (10/30) |
Today we had the students build cars that could pass the shake test and would travel the furthest after rolling down a ramp. We recapped what we learned about making sturdy structures so the kids could incorporate those ideas into their cars. We also discussed the different types of wheels and how friction between the tire and the floor affect a car's movement. The kids were much more comfortable with manipulating the LEGO pieces this week. All of the kids were successful in building cars that moved. We had the kids redesign their cars twice to see if they could get it to go further and further. Some kids improved the distance their cars moved, but others ended up making their cars travel less. Overall, this activity was a good introduction to putting wheels together to make cars. The kids had fun and seemed to understand the topics that we went over.
