Week 4- Gears (11/6)

Today we discussed gears and how they are used in different modes of transportation.  Instead of having the students work in pairs to complete a task, we did different activities as a class.  We talked about parts of a gear, gear ratios, and sequences of gears.  The students had a little trouble manipulating the gears and getting them to fit properly, but with practice they got the hang of it.  It was nice to have the whole class working step by step to build gear walls.  This format allowed the students to concentrate on learning about concepts instead of trying to be the first group to finish a task.  By the end of class, students were comfortable with gears and eager to use them in other projects.
