| Week 1: Light at the beginning of the tunnel |

We decided to start off this semester by building on the students' prior knowledge of working with NXTs. Since they already had a pretty strong background in building with the NXT kits, we decided to move on to the next phase: using the different sensors (light, touch, sound, ultrasound). In the first week, we decided to introduce the light sensor using the "Light at the beginning of the tunnel" activity. The biggest issue we faced during this activity was that most of the students needed to recall what it was like to build with the NXTs. As a result, it was not possible to finish this activity (which is designed to be completed in an hour) within the designated class time. Our recommendation for future STOMPers - start off the new semester with at least one activity (preferably two) which involves building, just so that the students become familiar with the process again. |
