Week 5: Staying on the table part 2 (Ultrasound)

This week, we tried a new twist on the "Staying on the table" activity, using ultrasound sensors instead of sound sensors. Since the kids didn't understand what ultrasound was, we spent some time explaining how ultrasound waves can bounce off surfaces and give us a measurement of how far something is. To clarify this, we first got them to hook up their ultrasound sensors to the NXTs and use it to get a plain vanilla measurement of their own heights. This seemed to work pretty well, and we had fun talking about how only engineers would use ultrasound to measure their heights. The activity itself will require another class to be completed because of the numerous steps involved, but everyone seems to find it pretty interesting and it should go well next week.
