Paper Airplanes

We changed gears by moving away from structural engineering, which I think they appreciated.

We started out by talking about what forces are and the kinds of forces that act on a plane as it flies through the air. We then paired them up and gave each student one of the two designs.

It was very obvious who had prior experience with paper airplanes and who did not. Those who did were flying their planes within 2 minutes, whereas other students took 15 minutes just to get the first few folds. The more advanced ones started building their own designs.
