On March 30th we did an activity on sustainable development. The kids were enthusiastic about the lesson and during the activity were particularly cooperative and the competition got very heated. We set up a scenerio of a fantasy island "Dilma" that has run out of oil and gas and needs alternative energy supplies to be transported to its powerplant from all over the island. We gave the kids maps of where the water, forests, landfills, and powerplants were. Finally, what really worked with the class, was handing out "Dilma Dollars" which they used to buy supplies from the government (the Stompers). This helped control the kids who usually went a little too gunho for materials and also helped to maintain order. The kids gave presentations at the end and were rather attentive to eachother. We announced a winner and rewarded them with Dilma dollars. It went very well. |
