This week we did the Build a Chair for Mr. Bear activity to learn about sturdy structures. We put on our Civil Engineering hat and followed the engineering design process to build a sturdy chair that would allow Mr. Bear to sit up. The kids had some difficulty drawing out the chair in a way that they could actually build it with the Lego's, but their construction of the chairs were creative and quite sturdy once they realized how the Lego bricks can actually join together. Some of the kids still had trouble building and needed lots of guidance and encouragement to work together and to actually build a chair. This difficultly that we saw the kid having connecting the Lego bricks encouraged us to do a review session in the upcoming week, walking the kids through building a structure with the Lego bricks.
