Week 1: Introduction and Human Robot |
|
This week we introduced ourselves to the classroom and started with an introduction to STOMP and engineering. We explained the engineering design process and that we would be using this process to work with the NXT kits and do some programming. We then did the human robot activity. We first had the students program Jordy to walk to a table and sit down in a chair. The students learned that they had to be very specific with their directions and that they could create loops if they want they robot to do something over and over again (like walking). They then programmed Laney to walk to the white board and draw a smiley face. The students learned that a robot only has control over his/her body and doesn't know the outside world. They also learned that robots can be programmed to move for a certain amount of time. The students were then introduced to the NXT pieces and allowed to explore the kits for the last 15 minutes of class. The activity and introduction was a huge success!
