Mohammed Siraj taking a wicket
Siraj became new world number one ODI bowler

On Wednesday, September 20, ICC updated their weekly ranking charts, where the Indian players benefitted heavily because of their dominating show in the Asia Cup.

Mohammed Siraj, who made it to the news after his six-wicket haul against Sri Lanka in the finals of the Asia Cup, jumped eight spots to become the new world No.1 ODI bowler. Siraj displaced Australia’s Josh Hazlewood from the top spot.

Siraj has a 694 rating, while Hazlewood is 2nd with 678 rating. It is not the first time that Siraj has achieved the best ODI bowler tag by ICC. The 2nd best-ranked Indian bowler in the ranking chart is Kuldeep Yadav, who is placed ninth with 638 points.

Siraj and Kuldeep were India’s best bowlers in the Asia Cup, as Siraj took 10 wickets, while Kuldeep had 9 wickets in the continental cup.

Siraj’s magical spell in the final restricted Sri Lanka to 50 runs, which is the lowest score in the Asia Cup’s history and also the lowest score by any team against India in ODIs.

India will now face Australia for the 3-match- ODI series starting from September 22. Siraj and Hazlewood have the opportunity to go into the ICC World Cup 2023 as the No.1 ranked ODI bowler.
